Pam Gilbert Artist
The artist Pam Gilbert was born in Cardiff, South Wales, UK. She originally trained as a teacher, where her principle subject was art and design. Art therefore played a very significant role in her teaching career within primary, secondary and special schools.
Subsequently, Pam has chosen to channel her interest in art by seeking advice from professional artists as well as undertaking theoretical and practical studies. Her skills were enhanced and developed in a range of techniques including watercolour, acrylics, pastels, digital photography and mixed media.
Using these techniques, Pam worked at designing and making collages. Inspiration was drawn from studying tone, texture and simplifying shape and form from objects, nature and scenes. The collages produced were abstract patterns or semi-abstract scenes.
As a result of visits to art exhibitions and to book shops in Hay-on-Wye, the collages were developed into textile landscapes, including creative embroidery. More recently Pam has learnt to use digital embroidery software with a specialised embroidery machine, from which her current work has emerged, incorporating the many techniques studied previously.
